Hypnosis is a way that we can access the unconscious mind. The unconscious mind is what we use for breathing and pumping blood through our bodies and is in control of all the things we don't always have to think about.
Over time, we gain habits like tying our shoes or driving a car and we don't have to think about each step anymore - like those familiar motions are on autopilot. That's when our unconscious brain takes over.
This is why hypnosis works. It allows us to talk to our unconscious brain to change our behavior and our autopilot.
